C’River professionals fault PDP on alleged disqualification of aspirants
Conferenceof Cross River State Professionals, CCRP, has frowned on the reported disqualification of some governorship aspirants for the 2015 governorship election on the platform of Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in the state by a caucus in the party.
In a statement in Lagos, convener of CCRP, Effiong Nyong, said: “The PDP leadership is hereby notified of the dangerous steps being taken in Cross River State to disenfranchise some aspirants to favour others.
“We at the conference of Cross River State Professionals will resist any attempt by any group of persons, no matter how highly placed, to impose certain candidates on the people. We shall mobilize and hold open demonstrations against the governor and the party if this is allowed to continue.”
Nyong noted that apart from the people, who would be represented by their ward and state delegates at party congresses, no group had the right to disqualify any individual from contesting for party nomination, saying “we will resist such attempts vehemently until the right thing is done.”
