Nigeria: Another Blast Kills 16 in Borno Market

A bomb explosion was recorded at a cattle market in Musari, on the outskirts of Maiduguri, Borno State, late on Saturday, with as many as 16 people dead, hospital and military sources said, in an attack that bore the hallmarks of Islamist Boko Haram militants.

"At about 4:30pm on Saturday they brought casualties from the blast scene ... 16 bodies were deposited with 24 injured," a paramedic at the teaching hospital in Maiduguri, Lawal Kawu, told Reuters news agency.

He said some of the injured were also in critical condition.

Eyewitnesses said the blast in the small community destroyed many shops in the market and left a deep crater where the bomb went off.
