Insulate yourself from politics, Ahmed tells military


Kwara State Governor, Dr Abdulfatah Ahmed, on Tuesday urged the military to insulate itself from politics.

Ahmed said this when participants of Course 23 of the National Defence College, Abuja, on Geo-Strategic Study tour of Kwara State paid him a courtesy visit in Ilorin.

He stated that it was incumbent on all Nigerians to support the officers and men of the armed forces for keeping the country safe.

“Let me commend  the Nigerian military for its appreciable role in nation building, especially by protecting Nigeria from external aggression and internal unrest. While it is true that the country is going through very difficult times, especially in parts of the country caught in the grip of insurgency, the military must continue to live up to its reputation as one of Africa’s best”, he said.

Speaking on the theme of the Geo-Strategic Tour, ‘Socio-Economic Development through Urban Renewal in Kwara State’, Ahmed said, the state’s urban renewal programmes were geared towards ensuring that the roads in the state were motorable.

He also added that it was geared towards making potable water available within 500 metres radius for all residents, guaranteeing health care and beautifying the environment.

The leader of the National Defence College team, Commodore Aliyu  Lawal, said the team’s pre-visit study showed that Kwara State had comparative advantages in many sectors over other states under study.

Disregard petitions against us —Rivers PDP gov aspirants

PORT HARCOURT— SIXTEEN aggrieved governorship aspirants of Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in Rivers State, yesterday, urged the screening committee of the party in Port Harcourt to dismiss petitions alleging that some of them were not members of the party. Drama in Ogidi court as widow tackles police

A mild drama played out weekend at Ogidi High Court presided over by Justice Ike Ogu as a widow, Mrs. Nwakaego Mgbogo, and the police through their lawyer exchange words on the circumstances that led to the death of her husband, Raymond Mgbogo, in Peoples Club Police Post, Onitsha, Anambra State.
