Church describes group’s election illegal

BENIN CITY—THE Assemblies of God Church, in Edo State and Sapele, Delta State, have described as illegal alleged parallel election held by a group in the church, led by Rev. Chidi Okoroafor, saying their action was not only unconstitutional but also a rebellion in the church.
However, the church hailed what it described peaceful re-election of its General Superintendent, Rev Paul Emeka, at its 35th General Council meeting held in Enugu for another four years as a demonstration of his acceptability to lead the house of God.
In a statement signed by leaders of the church, Reverend Samuel Abrifor and Reverend Sunday Palmer, the church stressed the need for men of God to respect constitutional authority and stop indulging in activities capable of destroying the image of the church.
While reiterating support for Rev. Emeka and other newly elected leaders of the church at the recent General Council meeting in Enugu, they urged aggrieved members of the Church, led by Reverend Chidi, to abide by the constitution of the Assemblies and also obey the injunction served on them by a competent court.
