Senate summons service chiefs over emergency rule extension

The Senate has summoned service chiefs over the request of President Goodluck Jonathan to extend the one year state of emergency in Borno, Adammawa and Yobe states by another six months.

Osun APC: Protests greet alleged planned imposition

By Gbenga Olarinoye OSOGBO—Protesters yesterday stormed the state secretariat of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Osun state chapter, over alleged plan by the party’s leaders to impose candidates for the 2015 general elections. Specifically, an aspirant for the House of Representatives on the platform of the party, Mr Ayodele Kusamotu, accused the state leadership of the party of denying him the nomination form. Several protesters, who thronged APC secretariat yesterday alleged plans by some influential members of the party to impose their preferred candidate on the party against the wish of other members. Disregard petitions against us —Rivers PDP gov aspirants

PORT HARCOURT— SIXTEEN aggrieved governorship aspirants of Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in Rivers State, yesterday, urged the screening committee of the party in Port Harcourt to dismiss petitions alleging that some of them were not members of the party. The committee screening Assembly and governorship aspirants of the party in the South-South zone commenced work at the party’s South South zonal secretariat in Port Harcourt on Saturday. Professor Israel Owate, who spoke for the aggrieved aspirants at the venue of the screening exercise, said the petitions were allegedly sponsored by one of the governorship aspirants of the party, claiming that most of the 16 aspirants were not members of the party.
