Almost 1,000 killed in Ukraine since September truce: UN

Nearly 1,000 people have been killed in conflict-torn Ukraine since a tattered truce was signed in September while the number of people displaced has nearly doubled, the United Nations said Thursday.
On average 13 people have been killed each day during the first eight weeks of the September 5 ceasefire, with a total of 957 deaths recorded up to November 18, the UN rights agency said.
The number of people registered as displaced within Ukraine soared from 275,489 in mid-September to 466,829 on Wednesday, it added.

Disregard petitions against us —Rivers PDP gov aspirants

PORT HARCOURT— SIXTEEN aggrieved governorship aspirants of Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in Rivers State, yesterday, urged the screening committee of the party in Port Harcourt to dismiss petitions alleging that some of them were not members of the party. Drama in Ogidi court as widow tackles police

A mild drama played out weekend at Ogidi High Court presided over by Justice Ike Ogu as a widow, Mrs. Nwakaego Mgbogo, and the police through their lawyer exchange words on the circumstances that led to the death of her husband, Raymond Mgbogo, in Peoples Club Police Post, Onitsha, Anambra State.
