S. Africa prosecutors appeal Pistorius verdict

South African prosecutors on Tuesday filed an appeal against the sentence and conviction of star Paralympian Oscar Pistorius, who last month was sentenced to five years for the culpable homicide of his girlfriend.
“Today, we announce that the NPA filed the application for leave to appeal both the conviction and sentence,” The National Prosecuting Authority said in a statement. “The appeal on conviction is based on the question of law.”

Osun APC: Protests greet alleged planned imposition

By Gbenga Olarinoye OSOGBO—Protesters yesterday stormed the state secretariat of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Osun state chapter, over alleged plan by the party’s leaders to impose candidates for the 2015 general elections. Specifically, an aspirant for the House of Representatives on the platform of the party, Mr Ayodele Kusamotu, accused the state leadership of the party of denying him the nomination form. Several protesters, who thronged APC secretariat yesterday alleged plans by some influential members of the party to impose their preferred candidate on the party against the wish of other members. Disregard petitions against us —Rivers PDP gov aspirants

PORT HARCOURT— SIXTEEN aggrieved governorship aspirants of Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in Rivers State, yesterday, urged the screening committee of the party in Port Harcourt to dismiss petitions alleging that some of them were not members of the party. The committee screening Assembly and governorship aspirants of the party in the South-South zone commenced work at the party’s South South zonal secretariat in Port Harcourt on Saturday.
