Transparency, enduring legacies our focus in NIMASA — DG
Aheadof the commencement of his renewed tenure as the Director-General of the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency, NIMASA, by President Goodluck Jonathan, Mr. Ziakede Akpobolokemi, has affirmed that his drive as the agency’s helmsman will continue to be the entrenchment of culture of transparency, as well as legacies that will endure for decades.
Akpobolokemi, whose renewed tenure begins by December 20, 2014, gave this assurance shortly after his inauguration as the Chairman of the Board of Governors, Centre for Logistics and Transport Studies of the University of Port Harcourt (CELTRAS-UNIPORT), Rivers State.
The NIMASA DG, who thanked God Almighty, as well as President Jonathan for the re-appointment stated that though the journey has been tough since December 20, 2010, when he was first appointed, added that ‘’We have been able to bring back NIMASA to its core mandate. Because as a regulator, you should be able to do the things you are told to do. At some point in time, we veered-off that function. But now, we are back on track to carry out that function.
‘’We are virtually touching all the areas in our core mandate areas. From the safety point of view, you can see what we are doing. The domain awareness programme we have embarked upon is geared towards our safety and security responsibilities.”
